Meet the Artist

Hi, I'm Mishal, a self-taught abstract artist who believes she was created to create. As early as I can remember, I could always be found either crafting something out of objects that had been previously discarded, coloring, drawing, or painting. It was later as an adult several years ago, that I decided to rediscover being able to create and decided to pick-up a few canvases and paint colors.

The motivation to create began as a way to escape from moments of self-doubt and stress that life would bring on. While being able to escape, painting abstract forms also allowed me to reflect upon and analyze the emotions that were brought along with the feelings of self-doubt. It was during this time, that I rediscovered my passion for creating.

What I love about working on abstract paintings is that it allows me the freedom to be impulsive and pour my passion into the artwork. During the process of working on a piece, I am able to go in with a plan and disobey all those plans and create something completely against the ‘rules’. It is during these times that I am reminded that I must overcome my self-doubt and keep moving forward. I allow myself to intensely experience spontaneity and control. With each painting, I am able to allow myself to continue exploring and experimenting. Some paintings are deliberate and are meant to evoke a specific emotion, idea, or thought while others are an exploration of color, texture, and technique.

Each painting is built layer by layer through multiple layers of color, brushwork, marks, and various mediums. It is through these layers that the journey of exploration and curiosity is built into the artwork for every person who looks at it.
